Patrick Taffin d’Heursel is taking up the reins at Swiss Hotel Management School. He has been with the school since 2012, most recently as the Assistant Dean of the Leysin campus, and is now serving as acting Dean.
We are proud to announce Mr. Patrick Taffin d’Heursel as the acting Dean of Swiss Hotel Management School (SHMS), moving up from his previous position as the Assistant Dean of the school’s Leysin campus. As Assistant Dean, Patrick led his campus and saw to the rise of SHMS ultimately being recognized as one of the best hospitality schools in the world, ranked second globally.
Prior to his academic career, he has over 20 years of hospitality leadership experience with the likes of Ritz-Carlton and Disneyland Paris. Since he has been with us since 2012 in different capacities, we thought this would be a great chance to check in on his values, ideas, and inspirations regarding SHMS, academia, and more.
My favorite part about working in academics is the ability to inspire and guide students. Watching them grow, develop their skills, and achieve their goals is incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, being surrounded by a community of passionate educators and continuously engaging in intellectual discourse keeps me motivated and constantly learning.
Swiss Hotel Management School stands out due to its rich heritage, world-class faculty, and a curriculum that seamlessly blends theory with practical experience. Our strong industry connections and emphasis on multiculturalism provide students with a truly global perspective. The stunning campuses in Caux and Leysin also offer a unique and inspiring learning environment.
Working on both the Caux and Leysin campuses is an incredibly rewarding experience for me. It allows me to witness firsthand the remarkable growth and maturity of our bachelor students as they progress through their studies. In Caux, students embark on their educational journey in a picturesque and historical environment, which fosters their initial development and ignites their passion for hospitality. As they transition to Leysin, I see them mature both personally and professionally, honing their skills and gaining the confidence needed for their future careers.
This journey is not just about academic growth; it's about personal transformation. I am privileged to support and guide students as they navigate this critical phase of their lives, helping them build resilience, develop leadership qualities, and cultivate a global perspective. Being part of both campuses allows me to contribute to their holistic development, ensuring they leave SHMS not only as skilled professionals but as well-rounded individuals ready to make a positive impact in the world.
I draw inspiration and guidance from several sources. Personally, my family has always been my cornerstone, providing unwavering support. Professionally, I have been fortunate to have mentors who have significantly influenced my career, offering invaluable insights and advice. Additionally, I find inspiration in industry leaders and educational innovators. Their achievements remind me of the importance of resilience and continuous learning. I also love being a mentor myself, helping others navigate their paths and reach their full potential.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with a wonderful team and amazing students over the past 12 years. The positive impact they have had on my life is immense, inspiring me to continually strive for an even better SHMS.
