The Michelin Guide has launched a hotel version of their famous Michelin Star restaurant rankings. Called Michelin Key hotels, these luxurious getaways highlight perfection and splendor, representing the "best of the best" of hotels around the world. At Swiss Hotel Management School, many of our faculty have worked in these Michelin key hotels. We teach students to embody these hospitality values and examples and think about ways to innovate on the latest hospitality trends.
In the dynamic hospitality industry, where excellence is not just a goal but a standard, the unveiling of the new Michelin Keys ranking by the esteemed Michelin Guide has sparked a wave of excitement and anticipation. The world-renowned Michelin Guide announced its new hotel rankings system in 2023, and the newly rated properties are now being announced region by region.
As the world eagerly awaits to discover the crème de la crème of hotels, it's a moment of pride for institutions like the Swiss Hotel Management School (SHMS) to see hotel names being announced as a Michelin Key hotel, and discovering its students are interning and alumni are working at many of these prestigious properties.
For decades, the world-renowned Michelin Guide has been synonymous with culinary excellence, meticulously evaluating and awarding stars to restaurants worldwide. However, recognizing the integral role of accommodation in the overall dining experience, Michelin has ventured into the domain of hotel rankings with the introduction of Michelin Keys. This new ranking system extends Michelin's legacy of excellence beyond restaurants, providing discerning travelers with a curated selection of exceptional hotels.
Michelin Keys serve as a hallmark of excellence in the hospitality sector, signifying exceptional service, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to guest satisfaction. Much like Michelin stars for restaurants, Michelin Keys are awarded based on rigorous evaluation criteria, including the quality of accommodations, amenities, service standards, and overall guest experience. For hotels, receiving a Michelin Key is not just an accolade; it's a testament to their dedication to excellence and a guarantee of unparalleled quality for discerning travelers.
SHMS prides itself on its extensive network and close ties to Michelin Key hotels and hospitality industry leaders. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations, we ensure that our students are exposed to the highest standards of hospitality from day one. Our internships and careers coaches facilitate placements in renowned establishments, including those recognized by the Michelin Guide. This invaluable hands-on experience allows students to learn from the best in the industry, honing their skills and shaping their careers even before graduation.
As a pure hospitality school, first and foremost, we are also extremely proud to count industry professionals as part of our academic faculty. For us, we put in the time and walked the walk before we teach the next generation of hospitality leaders. Many of us have led events in hotels and managed properties now designated Michelin Key hotels, such as our very own SHMS Caux Assistant Dean, Claire Jollain, who worked in the esteemed three key hotel Eden-Roc in France. We are very honored to be part of the legacies of these properties and find that these rankings highlight the meticulous work of true hospitality professionals worldwide.
We are also proud of our students and alumni working on-site at many of the announced Michelin Key hotels. Having our students and alumni interning or employed at Michelin Key properties is a source of immense pride and validation for SHMS. It reaffirms the school's commitment to excellence in hospitality education and highlights the caliber of talent nurtured within our halls. SHMS alumni serving in key positions at Michelin-acclaimed hotels reflect the school's academic rigor and practical training and contribute to elevating the standards of the industry. We have always been committed to developing leaders in the hospitality industry.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Michelin Guide will continue to release the new Michelin Key hotels by region. At this time, the first key hotels have been announced in the United States, France, Italy, and Spain. Meanwhile, the hospitality industry is poised for further evolution and innovation. With changing consumer preferences, technological advancements, and sustainability concerns shaping the landscape, hospitality professionals must adapt and anticipate emerging trends. SHMS remains at the forefront of industry trends, equipping our students with the knowledge, skills, and agility needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving environment.
The introduction of Michelin Keys heralds a new era in recognition of excellence in the hospitality industry. For institutions like SHMS, being associated with Michelin Key properties underscores our commitment to developing future leaders and innovators in hospitality. As the industry evolves, SHMS continues to uphold our legacy of excellence, preparing students to excel in a competitive and dynamic global market.
