Anchors Aweigh for the World of Hospitality Cruise

Anchors Aweigh for the World of Hospitality Cruise

Using the beautiful Mont-Blanc Palace in Leysin as the vessel for the event, the SHMS students transformed the palace above the clouds into a nautical themed experience with a new surprise around every port of call.

The 10th anniversary signature event was held on Sunday, December 7, 2014 and featured international cuisine, unique student talent and a display of hospitality skills at its finest. The World of Hospitality is organized entirely by the final year students where the teachers that lead the class are treated as the client requesting the service. Although teachers remain available for support, the event is structured as an opportunity for the students to dive in headfirst and truly ‘sink or swim’. WOH Guest Host Manager and student, Salmon Gasim shared: “The work that goes into planning this event shows us what the real world is really like. We are forced to make our own decisions for ourselves and our team and understand the strategic steps needed in decision making.”

Ms. Lindsey Thomas, Foundation Programme Leader at SHMS Leysin explained that this event provides a great foundation for their career as so many skills and aptitudes are needed to succeed. She shared: “This experience really enhances the CV of the students because it is something truly unique. When an employer sees the World of Hospitality on their CVs the students have an opportunity to communicate the details of their experience and really shine and stand out from their peers coming from other hospitality schools”.

An International Affair

Members of the diplomatic community travelled in from Bern and Geneva to be in attendance including the Ambassador of Venezuela, Mr. César Osvelio Méndez González. He was extremely pleased to see the hard work in action of the many talented students from Latin America and shared: “There is so much potential from young people in Latin America and we need institutions like SHMS to help our young generation flourish.”

Bravo to all students involved in this event and thank you to all the guests for your support!
