Curriculum Structure

The Swiss Professional Degree in Hospitality Management follows the same academic path as the first three semesters of our Bachelor's program, providing a strong foundation in business, service, and leadership. It includes both academic coursework and two paid internships to ensure career readiness.

Year 1

The first semester lays a strong practical foundation for a complete hospitality education. From the intricacies of service excellence to understanding the nuances of menu design, beverage pairings, cost control, and everything in between.

The second semester builds upon previous study or previous experience. This semester offers rigorous academics blended with practical skills to excel in managing various departments within rooms division while continuing your soft skills training.

  • Apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings and develop customer service, operations management, and team leadership skills to be a true hotelier. 

SEMESTER 3

The third semester is all about cultivating your unique niche within the dynamic hospitality industry. Choose one of three specializations to round out your education and stand out from your peers; through a curated selection of specialization courses, you'll acquire the focused knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in your desired field, whether it's luxury brand management, event management, or digital marketing.

Year 3

  • Step into roles of responsibility and put your newly acquired management concepts into practice in a real-world setting. This internship is your chance to develop your skills, to both learn and lead by example.

COMPLETION OF FEDERAL DIPLOMA

Completion of the Project Management Capstone Project is the final step to earn the Advanced Federal Diploma for Higher Education in Hospitality Management.  

SEMESTER 4 OPTION: TOP-UP TO BA

At this point students may choose to pursue the fourth semester to also achieve the Bachelor of Arts in International Hospitality Management awareded by the University of Derby, UK. This final semester will refine your skills and knowledge of your chosen specialization and add the final touches to your studies with a digital portfolio project that will make you stand out to industry employers. Completeing the Advanced Federal Diploma with SHMS grants you direct entry into the final semester of the SHMS bachelor program, allowing you to earn degrees from both Swiss Hotel Management School and the University of Derby, UK.

Admission Requirements

The program requires: 

  • A minimum age of 17
     
  • Completed secondary school education: (Maturité,/Maturät/Maturità, CFC/EFZ/AFC or equivalent. VET,  IB Diploma, IBCP Diploma**, Abitur, French Bac, 2 A-levels, high school diploma or equivalent). Note: Students who posess a CFC/EFZ/AFC or equivalent VET in a hospitality related field are exempt from the first semester. Direct entry options or credit transfer options may be available for IBCP, IBDP, and BTEC Candidates.
     
  • English language proficiency of IELTS academic module 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 46 or equivalent. If you don't have the required language level, you can improve your language and study skills with our English Foundation Program. Please note that if you require a visa, Swiss authorities need to be provided with a valid TOEFL or IELTS score (not older than one year).

To apply the Federal Diploma program, you'll need to complete an online application. Here is what you need to do:

  2. Check your email for a link to create your password. 
  3. Log in to complete your application. As part of the application, you'll need to upload: 
  4. Secondary education diploma(s) or Swiss VET (CFC)
  5. Proof of English proficiency - TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent
  6. Passport copy
  7. Curriculum vitae
  8. Motivation letter (500 words minimum)
  9. Reference letters (if applicable)
Fees & Scholarships
  • Swiss nationals receive a 30% discount (-37,710 CHF / Semester 1-4* ) on published tuition fees
    For those eligible for the AES Grant: additional CHF 25,000 discount for the full program.
     
  • C-permit holders (permanent residents) receive a 20% discount (-25,140 CHF / Semester 1-4* ) on published tuition fees.

*The Swiss Professional Degree consists of three semesters. However, Swiss nationals and holders of B or C permits remain eligible for the tuition discount should they choose to continue into the fourth semester to complete the full Bachelor's degree.

Transferring to SHMS is a simple process designed to accommodate students from diverse backgrounds. If you've completed courses at another college or university, you may be able to apply those credits toward your degree, potentially accelerating your academic journey.

To apply for direct entry and transfer your credits, follow these steps:

  1. Contact the transfer admissions office to find out which credits can be transferred to your new degree.
  2. Submit your application online or by mail, along with your official documents (resume, transcripts, and diploma from previous education).
